Condition Guide
We classify clubs carefully to ensure buyers and sellers have a clear understanding of expectations. While this guide isn't exhaustive, it provides a strong reference point. If you're unsure where your clubs fit, email us at cs@swingagain.co.uk, and we’ll help you make an informed decision.
Excellent Condition
These clubs have only seen light use and there are only
minimal signs of wear which are only visible at close distance, not at address.
They are nearly flawless appearance.
- Crown / Top Line – there are no marks or scuffs of any kind.
- Clubface/Grooves – there may be light signs of ball strike marks to the face. These are few in number and only very light. Grooves should be like new still and any paint in-fill is intact.
- Shafts – there should only be very light
marks on the shaft if anything. No sign of any rub. Labels are complete. - Sole / Base of Club – only very light tee scratches and turf interaction but nothing which has breached or faded the paint layer.
- Grips - may show slight wear but remain functional and close to new condition
Good Condition
These have noticeable signs of play but have been well
looked after and wear is minor.
- Crown / Top Line – there may be very
light marks but these are not visible at address distance and there are no more than two or three in total. These could be very light scratches or mishits which have not breached the paintwork and are small/minor. There are no paint chips. - Clubface/Grooves – there will be ball
marks to the face. These are few in number and only light. Grooves should be like new and any paint in-fill remains intact. Irons may have some light bag
chatter to the face but no stone chips. - Shafts – graphite shafts are free of any
bag rub which goes into the graphite and may have light marks from going in/out
of the bag. Steel shafts are free from any pitting/rust spots, have ferules in
place properly, have their labels, and sets are all the same model and flex. - Sole / Base of Club – usual signs of
tee/turf interaction and there may be some minor fading to the paint layer. There are no stone chips to the leading edge and no nasty scrapes on the sole where a stone/path has been struck. Very minor paint chips and bag chatter may be present.
Grips - may need replacing soon but are ‘complete’
Fair Condition
These have moderate signs of wear and have clearly seen
regular use and/or miss hits which impact the aesthetics of the club(s).
- Crown / Top Line – whilst nothing has
breached the paintwork, there are clear marks on the top of the club either from miss strikes or other scratches/scuffs. However, at address the club looks fine and there are no nasty skymarks visible which have breached the paint. Irons may show bag chatter and putters only light marks, no dents. - Clubface/Grooves – there will be ball
marks to the face from the club having been hit regularly. However the grooves remain good and are not worn down in any way. There are no ‘penny’ markings on irons and any stone chips are light and not impacting the strike zone. - Shafts – graphite shafts are free of any
bag rub which goes into the graphite and will have marks from going in/out of
the bag. Steel shafts are free from any pitting/rust spots, have ferules in
place properly, have their labels, and sets are all the same model and flex.
(Please note that we will take into account the age of the club when it
comes to ‘pitting’). - Sole / Base of Club – usual signs of
tee/turf interaction and some fading to the paint layer. There are no stone
chips to the leading edge but there may be elsewhere. Paint chips and bag chatter may be present. - Grips - may need replacing but are ‘complete’
Poor Condition
This will encompass most products which fall outside of the above categories. You will notice that in most instances we don’t even take them because it’s simply not worth your time or ours in terms of value. However,
please note that we do not take the below items in any circumstances:
- Irons which have penny marks/grooves worn down.
- Clubs with bent or dented shafts.
- Woods which have dents in them.
- Cracked / Split woods.
- Sets which are not sequential.
- Anything counterfeit.

The Process
Quote It – Ship It – Bank It
Selling your old clubs has never been easier. We call it our 123 process!
1. Firstly you can find out what we will pay for a product by searching for it in the GolfBuyback Tool on this page. Once you find you club(s), you will
confirm the condition of the item and then see the value we pay. You can then lock in your quote for 14 days during which time you can ship the
item to us.
2. If you are happy with the quote and locked it in, ship the item(s) to the address advised.
3. When we receive the item you will get a confirmation of receipt by email and you will be kept updated as it moves to inspection and then payment. This happens within two working days!
NOTE: During the process, should we find the item is better or worse than the condition indicated in the quote, you will receive further information and the opportunity to accept or decline the revised quote. If declined, we ship the item back to you.
FAQs
I want to get a quote for more than 6 products and the system
is stopping me?
Should you require a quotation for more than 6 different items, then please contact cs@buybackgolf.com
and we can assist.
Should headcovers, wrenches, additional weights be included with the shipment?
We quote on the basis we will receive headcovers where that is mentioned in the condition criteria. We usually require them for Excellent and Good.
If the headcovers are damaged, we consider that as a headcover not supplied.
Should I send you tracking information once my products have been shipped?
It is not mandatory but if you do send us the tracking details, we do proactively monitor these and would contact you if there appears to be any sign of a problem with the shipping. You can reply to your quote confirmation email just with the carrier and reference. We will do the rest.
I’d like to do an exchange for items I want from SwingAgain, can I do that?
Currently the capability is not in place. We are however working on future solutions to enhance customer experience which will launch in
the near future.
My item is not listed and I think it should be?
Generally if we have not included an item in our buyback list, we consider that it is simply not financially viable for you or us to go through the process.
